Railways reach 383 hectares of land worth R30 billion within two years

ISLAMABAD, September 20 — Pakistani railways have acquired about 383 hectares of precious land worth more than Rs 30 billion over the past two years.

“The entry operation was launched with the help of railway police and district administrations,” an official in the Ministry of Railways told APP.

The official said Pakistan Railways owns 167,690 hectares of land across the country, of which 90,326 acres in Punjab, 39,428 acres in Sindh, 28,228 acres in Balochistan and 9,708 acres in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that the Geographic Information System (GIS) survey was also done under a project regarding computerization of railway land records, in which all the violations and leases were recorded in the Pakistan Railways Land Management Information System (PRLMS) software.

“The Railways of Pakistan have reserved 12808 hectares of land in four provinces for future industrial use, including 4364 hectares in Punjab, 1800 hectares in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 900 hectares in Sindh and 5744 hectares in Balochistan,” he added.

When asked, the official said the department had recovered 38km of the 43km long Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) land from the land grabbers in the province.

He said the case of the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club had ruled in favor of Pakistan Railways in the Supreme Court – there had been a call for transparent outsourcing of club management.

The official said Pakistan Railways had planted 500,000 trees in the past two years under the prime minister’s clean and green Pakistan campaign.
